Pace Angles: A contested but not overly strong gallop is predicted. Prominent racers such as Fire Coral, Sea of Doubt, and Hidalgo des Mottes could ensure a fair tempo. This setup should favour pace-stalkers or those handy early.
Ground: Good (good to firm in places) – no rain forecast; should suit top-of-the-ground types.
Course Fit: Tight, undulating, right-handed; can favour those with prior Downpatrick form or those who can travel fluently and quicken off the bend.

Strongest Contenders, Main Dangers & Interesting Outsiders
Strongest Contender – Tell Us This (114, Gavin Cromwell)
Proven at the track and grade. Was first past the post in a Down Royal handicap (demoted for interference), and finished a good fourth in a deeper Listowel event after. Off for 292 days but stable form is solid, and the horse is unexposed at this level. Has shown he can travel smoothly through races and act on good ground. Major claims if fit enough, and Cromwell is 4-10 at Downpatrick over hurdles since 2022.
Main Danger – Ar Nos Na Gaoithe (111, P.J. Rothwell)
Proven and consistent. Returned from a break to finish a close second over C&D in June (½l behind Pralognan), having previously shaped well at Kilbeggan and Clonmel. Can be ridden close to the pace, which suits here. Form is rock-solid for this grade and remains on a workable mark (90).
Contender – Sea of Doubt (109, Ian Donoghue)
Promising sort with snippets of ability in mares’ races. Best effort when runner-up at Tramore in April and fair fourth at Downpatrick in May. Slight jumping concerns, but a clean round and a positive ride from the front could see her hit the frame.
Interesting Outsider – Fire Coral (112, S. Curling)
Well-handicapped on a few past runs and makes her stable debut after a poor final run for C.W.J. Farrell. New yard has decent record freshening up similar types. She’ll race prominently, which is advantageous here, and she ran better than the bare result in a few spring races. Worth market monitoring.
Unreliable but Capable – Hidalgo des Mottes (110, Eoin Griffin)
Patchy profile but has run well at Kilbeggan and Limerick this term. Saddle slipped last time, so that run is a write-off. Can race close-up, stays further, and if allowed to dictate or sit handy, could surprise. Still a maiden but not without hope.

Runner Scores and Suitability Analysis
Tell Us This: 8/10 – Well treated, goes well fresh, trainer in form, ideal trip and ground.
Ar Nos Na Gaoithe: 7/10 – C&D form, tactically adaptable, fit and consistent.
Sea of Doubt: 6/10 – Lightly raced, has form here, but needs to jump cleaner.
Fire Coral: 6/10 – Stable switch could bring improvement; positive tactics suit.
Hidalgo des Mottes: 5/10 – Questionable temperament but tactical fit and stamina help.
Mount Mandela: 5/10 – Poor at Cork on return but has shown ability in maiden company.
Demanding Gerry: 4/10 – Often shapes as though ability is there, but finds little under pressure.
Centaq: 4/10 – Unexposed, might want further, and others look stronger today.
Surviving Murmansk: 4/10 – Modest form but did run well latest; tactically neutral.
Firstupbestdressed: 3/10 – Limited profile so far; minor place claims at best.
Forever Frankie: 3/10 – Back from 400+ days; tough ask.
Arch Hall: 3/10 – Shown nothing since debut season.
Benzine: 2/10 – Poor recent form and best avoided.
Noble Hilltop: 2/10 – Badly out of form and little to recommend.
Keep an eye on the market for support or big drifts for runners returning from layoffs of 90+ days.
Watch out for in-form hurdlers returning quickly; they can be hot.

Summary + Professional Punter View (Smart Play)
This low-grade handicap has its usual quota of deadwood, but several genuine contenders. Tell Us This brings higher-grade handicap form into a significantly easier race and is a major player if fit. Ar Nos Na Gaoithe has strong course form and is rock-solid at the level. Fire Coral is a dark horse on stable debut, and Sea of Doubt could go close with a clean round.
