7.30 Lingfield – Profit Street Sets the Standard
This 7f Class 5 handicap looks the sort of race where it pays to keep things simple. The strongest horse on the main figures is Profit Street, and he also makes the most appeal once the likely race shape is factored in.
Comment Shaper points to a strong pace setup without an obvious front runner. That usually means several horses will want a handy position, the tempo will be honest, and the race could set up for something able to travel prominently without getting dragged into a burn-up. That is exactly where Profit Street comes in.
He is Rank 1 on the HRB TimeWise Master ratings, and that matters. The top-rated horse is where the focus should be, especially in this grade, and there is nothing in this race to suggest the ratings should be opposed. He has already won three times over this course and distance this year, and his latest third over 6f was still a perfectly good effort given he was bumped at the start. Back up to 7f, he looks set to get his conditions again.
The big positive is that he is not just well treated on the figures, he is also the right type for how this race may unfold. Comment Shaper has him as a prominent racer with a strong late finish, which is ideal in a contest where there could be plenty of pace pressure from those wanting to sit handy. At Lingfield, that blend of track position and finishing effort is often hard to beat.
The obvious alternative is Daisy Roots, who is Rank 2 and the only one that really makes sense as the main danger. She has useful course form and should go well fresh, but there are a couple of doubts. Her run style is less reliable, and in a race full of prominent types she could end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. She is respected, but she does not look as solid as the selection.
Global Warning is another who will have supporters after his recent course-and-distance win. He is in form and finishes his races well, but this is a stronger race than the one he won last time and the 4lb rise makes life tougher. He looks more likely to run well than win.
At bigger prices, Bold Suitor is not impossible. He is consistent enough and his run style should suit the shape of the race, but he needs to find more than the top pair have already shown. Bella Bisbee also has some claims after her recent second over course and distance, though she is not one to trust completely.
The key points are straightforward. Profit Street is the top-rated horse, he is proven at the track, proven at the trip, arrives in form, and the race setup looks likely to suit him. In a handicap where plenty have something to prove, he has fewer questions to answer than most.
Verdict
