7.30 Southwell – Orbital Chime looks the right one in a race set up for a finisher🏇⤵️👇

·

This 7f Class 6 handicap does not look a race to overcomplicate. The field is exposed, the evidence is strong, and the likely shape of the race gives us a solid angle.

Comment Shaper points to one likely front runner in Embarked, but it also suggests strong early pressure overall. That matters. Embarked is a habitual pace horse who tends to weaken, while there are enough runners sitting close behind to stop this turning into a soft lead. In a race like that, you want a horse who can settle and finish.

That brings Orbital Chime right into focus.

He is only Rank 2 on the HRB TimeWise Master ratings, but that is still exactly where you want to be looking. The top two in these ratings produce the bulk of the winners, and Rank 2 is the only serious alternative to Rank 1. In this case, he makes more appeal than the top-rated horse because the race should play to his strengths.

Orbital Chime has been shaping as though another win is close. He was a solid third over further at Wolverhampton and then ran well again when second at Thirsk over 7f. The drop back into this grade and the return to an artificial surface look positives. His Comment Shaper profile is also a good fit. He is not a tearaway, he can be ridden with patience, and he has the right late finishing style for a race where those on the sharp end could come under pressure late on.

The obvious danger is Rusheen Boy, who is Rank 1 and therefore commands major respect. He is a three-time course winner and made all over this course and distance on his latest start. On raw ratings he is the percentage call, and ignoring that would be foolish. The concern is whether he gets the same run of the race this time. He is not the only pace influence in the contest, and even his Comment Shaper profile suggests he can weaken late. If he gets hassled early, he becomes more vulnerable.

Call Glory is the other one worth noting. He is only Rank 3, so he needs caution, but there is enough supporting evidence to keep him on side. He is a dual course winner, arrives in fair nick, and is one of the stronger late finishers in the field. He looks the sort to pick up pieces if the race gets messy, though he may again find one or two too strong.

Dancing With Drums is interesting rather than convincing. He has won his last two handicaps and the step up to 7f could help, especially as his recent run suggested he did not get the clearest passage. Still, he is not as solid as the top two in the ratings and does need to prove he can deliver over this trip in this setup.

There are negatives elsewhere. Embarked should go forward but looks vulnerable late. Rainwater is fairly treated and has bits of form that give him a chance, but he does not look as well positioned tactically as the main selection. Sixteen One has a hood on for a new yard after a long absence, which is enough to note, but not enough to support. Aspire To Glory has already had a stable change and ran poorly on his debut for the new trainer. Others look exposed or out of form.

The key point is simple. This race is likely to be run at a proper gallop, the likely leader does not look robust late on, and that should bring the finishers into it. Rusheen Boy is the ratings leader and the main threat, but Orbital Chime looks the horse with the best blend of current form, suitable run style and race setup.

Verdict

Orbital Chime is the pick.
Rusheen Boy is the obvious saver.
Call Glory looks the best of the rest.
