The 3.00 at Warwick, the Sporting Agenda Challenger Series Mares’ Chase Final, looks a race where the winner should come from the top end of the HRB TimeWise Master rankings. That matters, because the top two ranks have by far the best historical strike-rate and this contest fits that pattern well enough.

Ede’iffs Rock heads the ratings and comes here in cracking form after back-to-back wins at Taunton. She is clearly thriving, jumps well enough when in rhythm and has the profile of a mare still going the right way. The concern is the handicapper has not missed her. A combined 17lb rise for those two wins makes life much tougher in a stronger race, and she may not get such a comfortable time of it on the front end.

That brings in Kalista Love, the clear alternative from Rank 2. Comment Shaper makes her one of the standout late finishers in the field and this race shape could suit. There looks likely to be enough pace on, with some pressure behind the leader, and Warwick over this trip can expose anything that does too much too soon. Kalista Love has been shaping like a mare who will appreciate a proper stamina test and she has the right run style to pick up the pieces late.

Theonewedreamof is respected, but as a Rank 3 horse she needs stronger supporting evidence than she has. Kosasiempre is another danger, especially with her strong finishing profile, but again she sits outside the top two.

The selection is Kalista Love. She is not bombproof, but she looks the one most likely to get the race run to suit.

Verdict: Medium
