6.20 Fontwell – KSR Lighting Handicap Hurdle
This looks a tight six-runner handicap on paper, but the data points firmly towards the top of the HRB rankings, where Valadon holds a clear edge as the TimeWise Master Rank 1.
A repeat bid in the same race he won 12 months ago immediately catches the eye, and that previous course-and-distance success is highly relevant around Fontwell’s unique, turning track. More importantly, his recent profile suggests improvement. The application of a tongue tie appears to have sharpened his finishing effort, with his last two runs showing a stronger late surge than earlier in the season.
The Comment Shaper backs this up. A strong race shape with moderate collapse risk is predicted, featuring one front-runner and multiple prominent racers likely to keep the tempo honest. That scenario should set things up for a closer, and Valadon is one of the few in the field consistently finishing his races off.
Jackomy, the Rank 2, is the obvious threat. He arrives in winning form seeking a hat-trick and represents a yard adept with progressive types. However, his run style raises a small concern here. He’s often ridden prominently and has shown signs of weakening late on, which could leave him vulnerable if this develops into a stamina test.
Of the rest, Precious Metal has late ability but lacks the recent substance, while others appear either exposed or tactically disadvantaged.
In a race where positioning and finish will be key, Valadon looks primed to strike late and repeat last year’s success.
