2.05 Leicester – Ten Pounds can land the King Richard III Cup
This competitive 6f handicap looks the sort of race where it pays to stay disciplined, and the HRB TimeWise Master ratings point firmly towards the top of the list. Historically, most winners come from the first two ranked horses, so there is no need to get too clever.
Prince Of India heads the ratings and is clearly a major player back in handicap company after contesting stronger races. He has the class and his late-finishing profile is a good fit if things fall right. The slight concern is tactical. Comment Shaper suggests there is no obvious front-runner, only moderate early pressure and a low collapse risk, which may not be ideal for one likely to be ridden cold.
That is why Ten Pounds gets the nod. He is the only serious alternative on the ratings and looks the more straightforward fit for how this race may unfold. He is a previous course-and-distance winner, has the strongest “Today” figure in the HRB set, and should be able to race handier than some of the more obvious closers. In a race where track position could prove important, that matters.
There are other dangers. Berkshire Whisper shaped well last time after being gelded, Dark Cloud Rising has course form and could improve for his reappearance, while Strike Red is the Timeform pick after a promising return. Even so, the strongest case still sits with the top two on HRB.
Selection: Ten Pounds
Saver: Prince Of India
This looks a medium-strength selection rather than a maximum-confidence play, but Ten Pounds makes the most sense at the prices.
