The 3.40 at Navan, the Salsabil Stakes, looks a deceptively tricky Group 3 despite the small field. The Comment Shaper points to a steady, controlled race with no obvious front runner, which often turns into a sprint finish. That immediately puts the emphasis on positioning and, more importantly, who can quicken best late on rather than grind it out.
From an HRB TimeWise perspective, the focus has to start with Camino Vino, who sits clear as Rank 1. That alone is significant given the historical strike rate of top-ranked runners. She made a taking impression on debut, staying on strongly over a mile, and shapes like this step up to 10 furlongs will suit. The obvious concern is the jump from maiden company into a Group 3, but this isn’t the deepest renewal and she remains open to any amount of improvement.
The main danger looks to be Ice Dancer, the Rank 2 alternative. She brings solid Group form to the table and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye. With stamina likely to be her forte, she should be staying on when others have cried enough.
Of the rest, Chasing Paradise and Thundering On have ability but may find the race setup less than ideal, especially if the pace doesn’t fully collapse.
In a race lacking a standout, siding with upside over solidity makes appeal. Camino Vino gets the nod, with Ice Dancer respected as the most likely threat.
Verdict: Camino Vino (Medium confidence)
