The 4.02 at Sandown may only have six runners, but it revolves around one key question — can anything realistically lower the colours of Kabral Du Mathan?

From an HRB TimeWise Master perspective, the answer is “unlikely”. He’s a clear Rank 1, and historically that’s the bracket you want to be in, producing the bulk of winners. More importantly, his form backs it up. Since switching yards, he’s progressed sharply, winning impressively at Haydock before following up in the Relkeel. His run in the Stayers’ Hurdle can be marked up — he simply didn’t see out the trip. Dropping back in distance here is a major plus.

The race shape adds a layer of intrigue. Rubaud is flagged as a potential lone front runner, and in a small field that can be dangerous if allowed to dictate. However, there’s a notable cluster of strong finishers in behind, including the selection. With a moderate collapse risk, this doesn’t look like a race that will fall apart — but equally, it shouldn’t hand the leader a free pass.

Jingko Blue, the Rank 2, is the only logical threat. His Cheltenham Festival win reads well, and a steadier pace would suit, but he lacks consistency and arrives off a below-par Aintree effort.

In truth, this looks straightforward. Kabral Du Mathan has the best figures, the right conditions, and fewer questions to answer than his rivals.
