4.45 Musselburgh – Lady Dora Mae the one to be with
This looks a typically messy Class 5 on the surface, but the data gives it more shape than first meets the eye. The Comment Shaper flags a very strong pace scenario, with three front runners and additional pressure from prominent racers. That should ensure a truly run race, bringing stamina and finishing ability right to the fore.
In these setups, it pays to side with horses who can sit off the speed and finish strongly — and Lady Dora Mae fits that bill perfectly. She tops the HRB TimeWise Master ratings by a clear margin, and that alone demands respect given how dominant Rank 1 performers are historically. More importantly, her run style aligns with the race shape: she’s a hold-up type with a proven late kick, and Comment Shaper marks her down as a strong finisher.
Her latest run at Lingfield is easy enough to forgive. It came in a different tactical scenario on the all-weather, and she was beaten less than two lengths. Prior to that, she showed progressive form with back-to-back wins and still looks unexposed on turf.
Epidavros rates the main danger. She’ll also benefit from the pace and is solid enough, but her strike rate is a concern and she lacks the same upside.
Everything about this race points towards a closer, and Lady Dora Mae is the one who makes the most sense on both ratings and setup.
