The 4.50 at Punchestown looks straightforward at first glance, but a deeper dive into the data suggests it may not be as simple as siding with the obvious.

On HRB TimeWise Master ratings, Kitzbuhel stands out as a dominant Rank 1, holding a clear edge over the field. Historically, this is the bracket that produces the majority of winners, and his profile backs it up. A Brown Advisory winner with a bold, front-running style, he sets the standard and is rightly favourite. If allowed his own way up front, he will be very difficult to peg back.

However, Comment Shaper raises a significant concern. The race is packed with early pace — three confirmed front runners and several prominent racers — creating a strong early gallop and a high collapse risk. That scenario is far from ideal for Kitzbuhel, who does his best work dictating. If taken on, he could be vulnerable late on.

This brings Fleur In The Park firmly into the equation. Ranked 2nd on HRB, she is the only statistically viable alternative and arrives off a career-best Grade 1 win. Her running style is a major positive here: she sits just behind the speed and finishes strongly, exactly the type you want in a race where the leaders may go too hard.

Others like Oscars Brother and Western Fold have strong finishing profiles, but they lack the ratings strength typically required to win a race of this nature.

In the end, this comes down to class versus setup. Kitzbuhel is the best horse, but Fleur In The Park may get the race run to suit.

Selection: Fleur In The Park
Verdict: Medium confidence
