6.15 Naas – Colm White Bookmaker Handicap
This looks a typically competitive Naas sprint on paper, but the combination of HRB ratings and Comment Shaper gives a fairly structured way into the race.
The pace map is crucial. Comment Shaper identifies Valiant Force as the sole front runner, but importantly flags strong early pressure (4.28) and a field packed with hold-up performers (7 runners). That combination often leads to a well-run race where those sitting just off the speed — rather than the leader or extreme closers — are best positioned.
On the numbers, Staysound Susie stands out as clear Rank 1 on HRB (357.8). That alone demands serious respect given the historical strike rate of top-ranked runners. She arrives in form after a career-best win at the Curragh, and her profile fits the expected race shape perfectly. She tends to track the pace (TC), which should allow her to avoid traffic while still benefiting from a strong gallop. Crucially, she is also flagged as a strong finisher, a key asset here.
The obvious alternative is Howdyadoit (Rank 2). A progressive 3yo, already proven at the track, he has the upside edge on older rivals. However, he comes with risks — notably an absence and a slightly unpredictable run style. He looks more of a saver than a confident win play.
Of the others, Keke and Indigo Dream will be finishing strongly, but both are hostage to pace and positioning, and neither has the same statistical profile as the top two.
There is a scenario where Valiant Force gets loose on the lead, but the data suggests he is unlikely to get things his own way.
Selection: Staysound Susie
Verdict: Medium strength
