6.30 Wolverhampton – Tactical Edge Points to Blu
This looks a deceptively tricky Class 4, but the race shape tells a very clear story. With no confirmed front-runner and only moderate early pressure, this is unlikely to turn into a strongly run contest. That immediately puts the emphasis on track position, not just finishing speed.
The HRB TimeWise ratings are headed by Newfangled (Rank 1), and historically that demands respect. However, dig deeper and there’s a flaw — his Comment Shaper profile repeatedly flags that he weakens late. In a race where the pace won’t collapse, that’s a major concern. He’ll travel well but may not find enough when it matters.
Jez Bomb (Rank 2) is arguably the most solid on recent form and boasts one of the strongest finishing profiles in the field. The issue is his habit of starting slowly. In a steadily run race, giving away early position is a serious disadvantage, and he may simply have too much ground to make up.
That brings us to Lordsbridge Blu, who looks ideally suited to how this race should unfold. A strong second over course and distance last time confirms he’s in form, and crucially, he has the tactical speed to sit closer to the pace than most of his rivals. In a race lacking a true leader, that could prove decisive.
Timeform also makes him the selection, noting his ability to travel strongly and his current workable mark. While he’s not top-ranked on HRB, this is a case where race setup outweighs raw ratings.
There are dangers, particularly if the pace lifts unexpectedly, but on balance Lordsbridge Blu holds the strongest overall profile.
Verdict: Lordsbridge Blu
Confidence: Medium
