The 3.15 at Musselburgh looks a straightforward sprint on paper, but the race shape adds a layer of intrigue that shouldn’t be ignored. Comment Shaper points to a strong pace scenario, with two confirmed front runners and enough pressure to ensure this is run at a proper clip. However, Musselburgh’s 5f track often favours those racing prominently, so this is unlikely to completely fall apart.

From a ratings perspective, the focus is clear. AL HUSSAR (HRB Rank 1) and ROSENPUR (Rank 2) dominate the TimeWise Master figures, and history tells us the winner is highly likely to come from this pair. Everything else needs to improve.

Rosenpur is the obvious one to beat. He was prolific last season and returned with a solid second at Catterick. He’ll go forward again and could easily dominate if left alone. The issue is he won’t get things his own way here. With another front runner alongside him, there’s a risk he’s softened up early — and his profile does show a tendency to weaken late.

That opens the door for Al Hussar. He arrives in form, running well in two competitive Musselburgh handicaps, and crucially, he’s operating off his last winning mark. His Comment Shaper profile highlights him as a strong late finisher, which could be decisive if the leaders overcook it. He also has the tactical speed to sit close enough, which is vital at this track.

Others like Water Of Leith and Woohoo have late finishing ability, but they may simply be too far back when it matters.

In a race likely dictated by pace and positioning, Al Hussar looks the most solid option. He brings the best balance of form, ratings and finishing strength.

Verdict: AL HUSSAR – Medium confidence
