6.15 Southwell – Handicap Preview
This 6f Class 5 at Southwell is a race where the data gives a fairly clear starting point, and it pays to respect it. HRB TimeWise Master has a strong bias towards the top two ranked runners, and here that focus lands squarely on Neyva’s Angel and Tabby, with a sizeable gap back to the rest.
The race shape adds an important layer. Two front runners and several prominent racers suggest a genuinely run contest, but not an all-out burn-up. With a low collapse risk, this is unlikely to fall apart for hold-up types, meaning those positioned close to the pace should hold the advantage.
Neyva’s Angel tops the ratings and comes here off a C&D win where she overcame her usual slow start. That trait remains the obvious concern, but the key point is she has already proven she can defy it under these exact conditions. Her latest figure is comfortably the best in the field, and with pace to aim at, she looks set to get a similar setup.
Tabby, however, is a serious threat. Her return from a long absence produced an improved effort, finishing a close second, and she is open to further progress. Tactically, she may be better placed than the selection, sitting closer to the speed, and the stable/jockey combination commands respect. The only slight question is the quick turnaround and whether that last run has taken its toll.
Of the remainder, Glamour Show and Fan Mail are notable late finishers, but the race shape does not look ideal for their running styles.
In a race where the top two dominate both statistically and visually, Neyva’s Angel gets the nod, but only narrowly.
Verdict: Neyva’s Angel
Strength: Medium
