2.55 Lingfield – Southbank set to pounce late

This looks a messy Class 6 on paper, but the tools point to a fairly clear angle if you trust the data. Comment Shaper has this down as a very strong pace scenario, with multiple front runners and prominent racers likely to force things early. That immediately raises the likelihood of a late collapse, and at Lingfield over 6f that’s often decisive.

So the focus shifts to runners who can sit off the speed and finish strongly.

From an HRB TimeWise Master perspective, the race revolves around the top two: Southbank and Poetic Jack. Historically, that’s where the winner usually comes from, and there’s little reason to deviate here.

Southbank (Rank 1) makes the most appeal. He’s consistent at this level, proven over course and distance, and crucially, Comment Shaper flags him as a strong late finisher. His running style is adaptable enough to avoid the early battle, and his recent efforts suggest he’ll be finishing better than most. In a race likely to fall apart late, that profile is exactly what you want.

Poetic Jack (Rank 2) is respected, particularly with Hollie Doyle booked, but he looks vulnerable tactically. He’s a habitual front runner in a race overloaded with pace, and his tendency to weaken late is a major concern given the projected setup.

Of the rest, Top Star fits the closing profile and is respected by Timeform, but his lower HRB rank tempers enthusiasm. Others look either poorly positioned tactically or simply not good enough.

This should be run to suit something coming from off the pace, and Southbank is the one who ticks the most boxes.

Selection: Southbank (IRE)
Strength: Strong
