The 4.43 at Windsor looks a fairly typical Class 5 sprint on paper, but the data points to a race that should be run at a strong tempo – and that’s often where these contests are decided.

The HRB TimeWise Master ratings immediately narrow the focus. Overbudget (IRE) sits clear at Rank 1, with Blue Deveron the only realistic alternative at Rank 2. Historically, that’s where the winner usually comes from, and there’s little here to suggest this race will buck that trend.

From a race shape perspective, the pace looks honest to strong. Two front runners and several prominent racers should ensure no hiding place. That scenario typically favours those who can sit just off the speed and finish strongly rather than those embroiled in an early battle.

That brings us back neatly to Overbudget. She’s yet to win, which is the obvious negative, but three consecutive runner-up efforts suggest she’s well treated. The addition of a first-time tongue tie could unlock a bit more, and crucially, her run style fits the expected shape perfectly. Comment Shaper flags her as one who often stays on and finishes well, which is exactly what you want in a race like this.

Blue Deveron is the danger. He’s consistent, shaping as though a strong 5f will suit, and has similar late-finishing credentials. However, he lacks the same potential for improvement and is making his turf debut, which adds a layer of uncertainty.

Of the rest, Filly Foden looks vulnerable given the pace setup, while Coyy may pass beaten horses late but is up against it from a ratings perspective.

There is a slight concern that Overbudget may find one too good again, but this looks an ideal opportunity.
