5.20 Curragh Blog — Reposado Gets The Vote

The 5.20 Curragh is a typically competitive 20-runner sprint handicap, but the starting point has to be the HRB TimeWise Master ratings. Historically, Rank 1 is the key position to focus on, and Reposado comes out clearly on top with a total of 288.8.

He is still a maiden, which is the obvious negative, but his latest run was a strong piece of form. He finished second over this course and distance in a 21-runner handicap on heavy ground, and today’s good ground should not be an issue. A 4 lb rise makes life tougher, but he arrives in better recent form than most of these.

The race shape is interesting. Comment Shaper identifies Genesis as the sole likely front runner, but the overall pace forecast is very strong and the collapse risk is high. That means the leader may not get an easy time late on. Reposado tends to race prominently rather than being held up, so he should be close enough to strike without needing everything to fall perfectly.

Tai Tam Bay is the HRB Rank 2 and must be respected. She ran a fast-finishing second at this track in March and now gets a first-time visor. That equipment change could sharpen her up, but it also adds a question mark.

Iff In Doubt is Rank 3 and looks progressive, but his best recent work has come over 7f and 1m at Dundalk. Dropping to 6f on turf may leave him with too much to do.

Timeform prefer Masked Angel, and he did finish well from a poor position last time. However, HRB has him only Rank 11, which makes him hard to side with as the main bet.

After reassessing, Reposado still looks the most solid option. He has the strongest HRB profile, proven C&D form, and the right run style for this race.
