Gowran Park 6.38 – Faiyum sets the standard in tactical Listed contest
This Listed fillies’ and mares’ contest looks a straightforward puzzle on the surface, and the data strongly supports that view. Faiyum sits comfortably clear at the top of the HRB TimeWise Master ratings, and historically that Rank 1 position is where the majority of winners come from. With a rating of 440.8, she has a sizeable edge over Lemsairbat (Rank 2), who rates as the only realistic alternative on the numbers.
The race shape adds another layer, but not one that disrupts the favourite’s chance. Comment Shaper highlights a lack of a true front runner and only moderate early pressure, suggesting a tactical affair. In these scenarios, positioning and turn of foot become crucial. Faiyum’s profile fits perfectly—she has shown versatility in running style and is flagged as a strong late finisher, meaning she can sit handy and quicken when it matters.
Timeform reinforces the case. Rated 120p, she is still open to improvement and already proven at this level or close to it. Her previous course win is another positive, and the Lyons yard has an excellent record in this race. Her seasonal reappearance over an inadequate trip on heavy ground can be forgiven, and she is expected to strip fitter here.
There are dangers. Lemsairbat is consistent and stays further, but may lack the tactical speed needed. Sindria is interesting stepping up in trip after an impressive course win, though she needs to improve again to trouble the selection.
The only slight concern with Faiyum is a tendency to travel strongly without always putting races to bed, having been beaten previously at short odds in-running. However, against this field, she may not need to find much more.
Selection: Faiyum
Confidence: Strong
