2.20 Ascot – Juddmonte EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (5f)

This looks a very informative early-season juvenile contest, but the race sets up strongly around the proven fillies, and the HRB TimeWise Master figures point firmly towards Bint Archange. Importantly, she is the clear Rank 1 horse on the ratings with a huge total of 339.6, massively clear of the field. Given the historical data for this exact race type, Rank 1 runners win at nearly 28%, while the strike-rate drops sharply thereafter. In non-handicaps, especially 2yo races, that edge is significant.

Richard Hughes’ filly shaped with plenty of promise on debut at Newmarket when third in what looked a useful maiden. She travelled professionally, showed natural speed and, crucially for a 2yo second start, she kept finding late on. Timeform noted she “should build on that”, while Comment Shaper highlights her as a prominent racer who is “often staying on” — an ideal profile in a race lacking an obvious confirmed front-runner.

The race shape itself is interesting. Comment Shaper suggests no natural pace angle, but several prominent racers could force a solid gallop without a true leader. In these scenarios, experience and professionalism become even more important, which again favours Bint Archange over the unraced fillies.

Of the dangers, Miss Moneypit appeals most as the likely improver. Her Bath debut can be upgraded considerably after meeting trouble and finishing with running left. She is the obvious Rank 2 style alternative despite sitting fifth on raw totals. Beautiful Rainbow also shaped nicely at Beverley and could progress sharply second time out.

The main concern for Bint Archange is the short price in a juvenile novice full of unknowns. Several expensive newcomers have appealing pedigrees, notably Wondervision and Resemblance, but neither matches the proven level already achieved by the selection.
