1.20 Leopardstown – FITZ AGRIPLANT Maiden (7f)
This looks a notably weak maiden made even thinner by the withdrawal of Khafar, and the race now revolves heavily around the proven pair at the top of the HRB TimeWise ratings.
Main Selection: GOOMAH (IRE)
HRB strongly points towards Goomah, who is the clear Rank 1 horse on the TimeWise Master figures with a dominant total of 263.2, nearly 40 points clear of the next best. Given the historical strike rate of Rank 1 runners in these races, that immediately puts her in the strongest position.
Her profile also ties in well with the Comment Shaper data. In a race forecast to have a very weak pace, tactical positioning becomes important, and Goomah is expected to race mid-division rather than fully held up, which is a positive compared to some rivals likely to be dropped out. The comments identify her as an “often finishing well” type and note previous unlucky passages, suggesting there is still upside.
Timeform’s view is also constructive. She showed fair form in two juvenile runs, shaping as though further progress was likely at three. The key point is that she already sets the best established standard in a contest where most exposed runners have looked limited. Her Dundalk sixth, beaten only 4½ lengths, reads perfectly adequately for this level.
The danger is clearly Valentino Eclipse, an interesting hooded debutant from the Stack yard. In races this weak, an unexposed newcomer can easily improve past exposed form. However, HRB gives him almost no measurable data due to lack of runs, and historically the safest route remains siding with the proven Rank 1 horse.
Saver / Alternative
Valentino Eclipse – respected on pedigree and trainer intent.
Self-Critique & Reassessment
The concern for Goomah is the likely steady pace. Hold-up horses are not usually favoured here over 7f in tactical races, and a fit, well-schooled debutant could outmanoeuvre her. Still, she possesses the strongest combination of ratings, proven ability and finishing data in a weak renewal.
