4.15 Leopardstown – Its Family Day At Leopardstown Fillies’ Maiden

This looks a race to build around the top three with experience, and the HRB TimeWise Master figures are very clear. Johanna Walsh is Rank 1 on 278.7, narrowly ahead of Pink Coral and Beatific. Per the usual TimeWise bias, that immediately makes Johanna Walsh the percentage call, especially in a maiden where the top two in the ratings tend to dominate the outcome.

The case for Johanna Walsh is solid. Her profile is the most dependable: two runs, two placed efforts, and an excellent Comment Shaper fit. She is predicted to race prominently, and in a race where there is a single front runner and likely only a steady pace, that tactical position is ideal. Comment Shaper also flags her as the strong late finisher in the field, while Timeform specifically says a steady pace should enhance her prospects more than Wickedly Wootton’s. The step up to 1m2f looks a plus, and her tongue-tie remains in place after two promising runs.

Beatific is the obvious danger. She has the best last-run figure in the field, and Timeform’s verdict is notably strong: her Leopardstown debut form is “working out well”. She is also a Frankel filly with obvious scope to improve for this trip. However, Comment Shaper is a little less persuasive, suggesting she can weaken rather than finish strongly, and in what may become a tactically-run race that matters.

Pink Coral is respected as HRB Rank 2 and now gets first-time cheekpieces, while Believed has first-time hood and shaped better than the bare result at Dundalk. Both can improve, but neither quite matches Johanna Walsh’s blend of ratings strength, race-shape suitability and proven resolution.

Past renewals suggest this usually goes to a useful 3yo filly with class connections, so that also fits the main players rather than the outsiders.

Selection: JOHANNA WALSH

Self-critique: the danger is that Beatific improves sharply second time and simply has more raw ability than shown. Pink Coral is also not dismissed if the new headgear helps her travel and finish better.

Confidence: Medium-Strong
