This looks a fascinating novice hurdle despite the small field, with the market and the ratings both pointing strongly towards the top two in the HRB TimeWise Master rankings — exactly where the historical edge usually lies in these races.

Main Analysis

MIDNIGHT JET is the clear HRB Rank 1 and deserves that position. His TimeWise Master total of 344.4 is miles clear of the field, and the profile is rock solid. The Fairyhouse win in a 25-runner novice hurdle now reads very well, and importantly he already proved his stamina over this sort of trip. The Comment Shaper also enhances his claims: in a race lacking a natural front-runner, his prominent style and strong finishing data look ideal. He is marked as the strongest late finisher in the field and should get first run in what could become a tactical affair.

The pace setup is key. Timeform expects a weak gallop and specifically notes that Midnight Jet “should be immune to race tactics”. That is important because slowly run novice hurdles can often become messy, yet his versatility in running style gives him a tactical advantage.

MASTER HAKU, the HRB Rank 2, is the obvious danger. Gordon Elliott’s runner is unbeaten over hurdles since stepping forward at Kilbeggan and shapes as though this extra distance will suit.
