6.17 Windsor – Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap (6f)
This looks a tight Class 3 sprint on paper, but the HRB TimeWise ratings and Comment Shaper narrow the focus considerably. As instructed by the historical strike rates, the analysis should centre around the top two ranked runners: Diligently and Change Sings.
Main Selection – DILIGENTLY
Clive Cox’s 4yo is the clear standout on the combined evidence. He is Rank 1 on HRB TimeWise (322.8) and importantly brings strong supporting indicators elsewhere. His latest Goodwood fourth is better than the bare result, having met trouble 2f out before finishing strongly. Comment Shaper flags him as a strong late finisher⭐⭐⭐, which is highly relevant in a race where the projected pace is only moderate despite one likely front runner.
Crucially, he is also a previous C&D winner, remains relatively lightly raced for a sprinter, and now competes from a mark 2lb lower than at Goodwood. Drawn in stall 2, he may need gaps to appear, but Windsor’s straight course often allows closers to challenge late if the pace holds together.
Main Danger – CHANGE SINGS (IRE)
The Rank 2 horse deserves major respect. Timeform’s pace angle strongly favours prominent racers here and this runner is ideally suited tactically. The return of cheekpieces is notable, and he is drawn low enough to attack early. However, his long losing run tempers enthusiasm slightly, and Comment Shaper labels him “unpredictable”.
Others
Zoulu Chief is the likely lone front runner and could prove dangerous if allowed an uncontested lead, but his Leicester effort suggested he may still need the run after a break.
Under The Twilight appeals most each-way. Another strong closer, he arrives in form and is dangerously well handicapped on old figures.
Self-Critique & Reassessment
The main concern for Diligently is pace. If Zoulu Chief controls matters cheaply, hold-up horses may struggle to reel him in. However, Diligently combines the strongest HRB profile, proven course form, an upgrade run last time, and the best finishing metrics in the field. The overall evidence still points firmly his way.
Verdict
DILIGENTLY to win.
