7.37 Killarney – Thorn Plant Hire Hunters Chase

The key to this race is balancing proven hunter chase class with the likely race shape. HRB ratings strongly favour Lifetime Ambition and, following the TimeWise Master guidance, the focus should remain firmly around the top two in the rankings.

Lifetime Ambition sits clear on total ratings (320.4) and brings the strongest recent hunter chase form. His Punchestown fourth 10 days ago was in a significantly deeper contest and he travelled like a horse still retaining plenty of ability. Derek O’Connor is a major booking in these races and Comment Shaper also suits him well: the projected “strong shape” with only one weak front runner should help his powerful late-finishing style. He is repeatedly marked as a “strong late finisher ⭐⭐⭐”, which looks ideal if the pace lifts from halfway.

The concern is tactical rather than ability. Timeform notes he was beaten as favourite in this race last year and Killarney’s sharper nature may not perfectly suit him. The quick turnaround after Punchestown is another small negative. Still, on pure hunter chase form he sets the standard.

Solitary Man is the obvious alternative as HRB Rank 2. He has a solid Killarney record and this longer trip is expected to suit better than the Cork race where he finished behind Journey With Me. Comment Shaper suggests he could be played later off the pace and his finishing profile is also very strong. If Lifetime Ambition underperforms after the recent run, Solitary Man is the likeliest beneficiary.

Journey With Me commands respect after beating several of these at Cork, but stamina for nearly 3m remains a slight doubt and his “sometimes weakens” profile is not ideal in a race expected to test finishing power.

Verdict:

1. Lifetime Ambition

2. Solitary Man

3. Journey With Me

The combination of top HRB rank, superior hunter chase form and favourable projected race shape gives Lifetime Ambition the edge.
