2.20 Bath – RJ King & Sons EBF Restricted Novice Stakes

The race revolves around the two obvious ones on the figures, and HRB’s TimeWise Master makes that very clear. Seed Ya Later is the top-rated horse on 377.8, comfortably clear of Jolly Good Fellows on 347.3, and that matters because the top two ranks produce the bulk of winners in these novice events. On raw HRB structure alone, Seed Ya Later is the one to beat.

From a form angle, she has done little wrong. She was an excellent second over this C&D on debut, then followed up at Musselburgh, showing professionalism and resolution. Timeform’s view that she is “in the right hands to progress again” is important, because Jack Channon’s juveniles can keep improving with racing. Her Comment Shaper profile is less flashy than Jolly Good Fellows, but it is solid: she is described as often staying on, and that is no bad thing if this becomes a proper test in the Bath finish.

The main concern is tactical. Comment Shaper identifies Jolly Good Fellows as the possible lone front runner, and in a race with low collapse risk, that is a genuine threat. Bath can suit a horse allowed to bowl along, and Timeform also notes that a steady pace may favour Jolly Good Fellows more than Seed Ya Later. Add in proven C&D winning form from just eight days ago and she is the clear danger.

Sovereign Glory appeals as the one with upside for third-choice purposes. He shaped with promise here on debut and could improve, but he is only Rank 3 on HRB and would need both principals to underperform.

There are no obvious equipment changes, no trainer changes, and no meaningful past-race trends, as there is no established history for this contest.

Self-critique: the pace setup does slightly temper confidence in Seed Ya Later, because Jolly Good Fellows may get her own way in front. Even so, the stronger overall profile, top HRB rank, and greater substance of form keep Seed Ya Later as the selection.

Selection: Seed Ya Later (IRE)
