8.10 Killarney – Killarney Racegoers Club Race Preview
This looks a fascinating staying contest despite the small field, and the HRB TimeWise Master ratings point very firmly toward SKY CAPTAIN. The Twomey runner is clear Rank 1 on 365.0 and, given the historical strength of top-ranked horses in these races, that immediately makes him the percentage call.
Sky Captain is lightly raced and still unexposed after just two career starts. His Roscommon maiden win worked out nicely and he backed that up with a solid second over this trip at Galway. The first-time visor is interesting rather than alarming, especially considering P. Twomey’s excellent record with both returning horses and first-time headgear. HRB’s strong Level figure and stable metrics also reinforce confidence. Comment Shaper suggests he usually races midfield before finishing well, which should suit this steadily-run affair.
However, there is one tactical concern. Timeform expects a very weak pace and specifically notes that prominent racers may be favoured. That slightly tempers enthusiasm because Sky Captain is usually delivered later. In that respect, KIZLYAR becomes mildly interesting from a pace perspective, though his overall profile and HRB rank are much weaker.
The main danger is probably EBONY KING, the clear HRB Rank 2. He has already shown strong finishing ability on the Flat and over hurdles, and Comment Shaper identifies him as one of the strongest late finishers in the race. His Dundalk second reads well and his Grade 2 hurdle run confirms current wellbeing. If the pace becomes stronger than expected, he could be the one finishing best of all.
TIM TOE is respected after an encouraging Bellewstown success and shapes like a thorough stayer, but HRB history suggests Rank 3 runners need extra supporting evidence to overturn the top pair, and this may come slightly too soon in his development.
