4.28 Yarmouth – AKS Skip Hire Handicap (7f)
This looks a fascinating Class 4 handicap where the market, HRB ratings and Timeform analysis all converge strongly around BEAGLE BAY, and importantly the profile fits the historical TimeWise Master edge of focusing heavily on the top-ranked horse.
Main Analysis
BEAGLE BAY is clear Rank 1 on HRB (324.8) and significantly ahead of the field. That matters because TimeWise data shows the majority of winners emerge from the top two ranks, especially in races like this. His Leicester fourth reads well in context: he conceded weight to progressive three-year-olds and still shaped with promise. Prior to that he won smoothly at Chelmsford after an 11-month absence and his Newbury maiden second from last season now looks strong form.
The race shape is also highly suitable. Comment Shaper suggests only one likely front-runner (Shimmering Spin) with merely moderate pressure overall. That should allow this to develop into a steadily-run tactical race before quickening late. Beagle Bay’s “Stayed on / Progressed / Unlucky” behavioural markers and strong finishing indicators are ideal for that scenario. Hector Crouch is also notably effective on favourites.
The main danger is clearly BERRY CLEVER (HRB Rank 2). He has strong late-finishing metrics and the expected pace should help him settle better than at Kempton. From stall 1 he could get a lovely tow into the race and arrive late.
NOBLE GUEST is respected due to excellent C&D credentials and a solid comeback run, though the ratings suggest he may already be near his ceiling from this mark.
Negatives / Self-Critique
Beagle Bay is short enough for a horse having only his first handicap start and there is a slight concern that Yarmouth’s straight 7f can favour battle-hardened handicappers over lightly raced types. If the pace collapses less than expected, Noble Guest could prove harder to pass than anticipated.
