14:20 York – Lindum York Handicap Preview
The Lindum York Handicap is a deep 22-runner Class 2 sprint over 5f on good ground, and this looks a race where pace and draw could be just as important as raw ability.
Timeform’s pace forecast is extreme, while the draw is said to strongly favour low numbers. That makes the tactical setup fascinating. Prominent racers are often favoured over this trip at York, but with so much speed engaged, those who race too hard early could be vulnerable late. Jakajaro arrives in excellent form after making all at Newmarket, but stall 18 and likely pace pressure make this a tougher assignment.
The most solid profile belongs to Corolla Point, who remains lightly raced and progressive. He won twice last autumn and shaped very well when third on his return at Beverley. There should be more to come, and he looks a strong contender despite a middle draw.
Air Force One also makes plenty of appeal. He is a C&D winner, has a good York record, and Timeform specifically suggests the likely race shape could suit him. From stall 6, he should get cover before finishing strongly.
Copper Knight deserves respect at his beloved York. The veteran has won this race twice and is a seven-time C&D winner. He arrives in form after a Beverley win and has a favourable draw in stall 4.
Others to consider include Hammer The Hammer, who has classy handicap form but returns from a layoff and wind operation, and Against The Wind, a lightly raced low-drawn runner who could outrun expectations.
Market moves may be informative, especially for those returning from breaks or wind operations. In a race this competitive, proven York form and the ability to handle a fierce tempo could be decisive.
Smart Play: Corolla Point is the win selection, with Air Force One the main saver.
