Forty Years On looks the most interesting runner in this competitive 7f Class 3 handicap at Newmarket. George Scott’s lightly raced filly progressed steadily through last season, winning three races in a row before going down narrowly at Southwell on her final start. That form has worked out well, with the winner Maybe Not scoring again this week, and her profile still suggests there is more improvement to come as a 4yo. The stiff finish at Newmarket should suit her strong travelling style, although Jamie Spencer will need to time his challenge carefully given she is usually held up off the pace.
Golden Redemption rates a major danger after an unlucky course-and-distance second here earlier this month. Andrew Balding’s colt met trouble in the closing stages that day and shaped as though this mark remains workable. He has now placed on all six handicap starts and brings one of the most reliable profiles into the race. Silver Ghost also appeals after a solid reappearance over this track and trip. She is a previous C&D winner and looks likely to improve for that recent outing.
Shah is perhaps the most intriguing runner in the field. He returns from a lengthy absence after showing considerable promise as a juvenile, including an easy novice success at Southwell. Gelding and wind operations may help him fulfil his potential, and market support would be notable given the 585-day break.
Son arrives in good current form following two runner-up efforts this spring and should again be competitive, while Bobby Bennu is handicapped to get involved if fully tuned up after his absence.
The pace looks honest without being overly strong, which may favour runners positioned just off the leaders. Hold-up horses could need luck in running late on the Rowley Mile.
