16:26 Naas – Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes (Group 3)🏇⤵️👇

·

5f 205y | 2yo Fillies | Good ground | 6 runners

A very informative small-field Group 3 with all five experienced runners arriving unbeaten. Despite the limited field size, there is depth here and several could easily develop into Royal Ascot types later in the summer.

Pace / Draw / Tactical Shape

Timeform forecast this as a weakly-run race. In a 6-runner juvenile sprint that matters considerably because tactical speed and positioning can outweigh outright stamina.

Naas over this trip generally rewards those travelling prominently rather than exaggerated hold-up types, especially when the pace is only even. With no obvious confirmed tearaway front-runner, this may become a race decided by acceleration rather than endurance.

Draw looks largely neutral in a field of six on good ground, so tactical positioning and professionalism should carry more weight than stall position.

What matters most in this race?

For inexperienced 2yos in a tactical Group sprint:

Early speed and professionalism

Ability to quicken off a modest pace

Proven turf form

Stable quality and progression profile

Less emphasis than usual should be placed on raw finishing times because the likely pace setup could compress the field.

Runner-by-runner assessment

1. CONTROLLA (IRE) – 4/10

Profile: Promising pedigree newcomer
Suitability: Track 6/10 | Trip 7/10 | Going 7/10

Well-bred Night Of Thunder filly from a strong family, but this is an exceptionally demanding debut assignment against unbeaten winners with race experience. Connections clearly think plenty of her to start here.

Pedigree suggests she will improve with time and probably beyond sprint trips. Lack of experience in a tactical Group race is the obvious concern.

Type: P (promising)
Market should guide expectations strongly.

2. DANCING DESTINY (IRE) – 6.5/10p

Profile: Progressive maiden winner
Suitability: Track 7/10 | Trip 5/10 | Going 8/10

Overcame greenness to win over 7.5f at Roscommon six days ago, which speaks positively about temperament and ability. However, this is a very different test.

The key concern is the drop back to an extended 5f in what may become tactical. Her pedigree and debut run suggested she may ultimately want further. In a stronger-run race later in the year over 6f-7f she could look even better.

Joseph O’Brien’s juveniles often improve sharply from first to second starts, though the quick turnaround adds a slight unknown.

Type: p (progressive)

3. MARIA QUITERIA (IRE) – 8/10P

Profile: Strong debut winner; potentially high-class
Suitability: Track 8/10 | Trip 8/10 | Going 7/10

Very impressive at Dundalk when heavily backed and winning like a filly well above average. Did everything professionally and showed notable speed.

The main unknown is turf effectiveness, but her action and pedigree do not scream all-weather specialist. She has the profile of a filly capable of taking a sizeable step forward.

In a tactical race, professionalism and natural pace become major assets and she possesses both.

Type: P (promising)

One of the key dangers to the principals.

4. VELOZEE (IRE) – 9/10p

Profile: Proven class act
Suitability: Track 9/10 | Trip 9/10 | Going 9/10

Sets the standard on form after winning a Listed race at the Curragh in decisive fashion. Already proven on heavy and good ground, which is valuable at this stage of the season.

Her Curragh win suggested tactical pace and a sharp turn of foot — exactly the qualities likely needed here given the anticipated tempo.

Paddy Twomey places his juveniles carefully and she already looks highly professional mentally. Probably the most solid and proven option in the field.

The one slight caveat is whether another rival has more latent upside, but on current evidence she deserves clear respect.

Type: p (progressive)

5. VICTORIOUS (IRE) – 9/10P

Profile: Potentially top-class Coolmore filly
Suitability: Track 10/10 | Trip 9/10 | Going 9/10

Course-and-distance winner who shaped like a filly with abundant improvement forthcoming. The way she finished at Naas was particularly taking and suggested class as well as professionalism.

Aidan O’Brien has won 5 of the last 10 renewals and operates at a 30% strike-rate at Naas since 2022. Ryan Moore booked is another positive.

Unlike some precocious sprint juveniles, she looked as though this extra yardage and a stronger race would suit ideally. The tactical setup should not inconvenience her because she travelled efficiently on debut.

There is a strong possibility she improves past this field through the summer.

Type: P (promising)

6. VOLLERING (IRE) – 7.5/10p

Profile: Professional British raider
Suitability: Track 8/10 | Trip 8/10 | Going 8/10

Won convincingly at Redcar and looked sharp and streetwise. Archie Watson does well with juveniles and Hollie Doyle is an eye-catching booking.

This asks a much stiffer question, however, and the depth of opposition is considerably stronger than what she faced on debut.

Likely to run well if handling the class rise, though others may possess greater Group-level upside.

Type: p (progressive)

Race Assessment

This looks chiefly between:

Victorious

Velozee

Maria Quiteria

Strongest contender

Victorious — strongest long-term profile, proven at Naas, powerful stable trends, and shaped like a filly with considerable progression to come.

Main danger

Velozee — brings the best proven form and already looks tactically versatile.

Interesting outsider

Maria Quiteria — could be much better than currently rated if translating AW ability to turf.

Hold-up / luck-in-running concerns

Limited in a six-runner field, but if they crawl early, any filly ridden too patiently could struggle to land a blow late.

Private Tissue Estimate

Victorious — 30%

Velozee — 28%

Maria Quiteria — 20%

Vollering — 10%

Dancing Destiny — 8%

Controlla — 4%

Smart Play

Win selection

VICTORIOUS
Course-and-distance form, strong finishing debut effort, major stable record in this race, and the profile of a filly likely to improve significantly from first to second start.

Saver / danger

VELOZEE
Most solid on achieved form and tactically very well suited by the likely race setup.

Maria Quiteria is respected as the potentially explosive unknown quantity if taking equally well to turf.
