6f, Turf, Soft (Heavy in places), 17 runners
This looks a proper test for specialist 6f fillies and mares. Haydock’s straight six on soft ground can become attritional, especially with a very strong forecast pace. Prominent racers are usually favoured here, but when too many want to go forward the race can collapse late for closers drawn with cover and patience. With several habitual pace angles in the line-up, this may suit stalkers and stronger finishers rather than those forcing it throughout.
There is no major draw bias indicated, but on testing ground at Haydock it can still pay to track the stronger groups developing near the pace. Hold-up types will require luck in running in a 17-runner field.
The race trends are notable:
Four of the last five winners carried 9-7 and were aged four or older.
Proven Listed-class sprint form has mattered.
Trainers with strong sprint records at Haydock often dominate these fillies’ contests.
Pace angles: Rosy Affair, Half Sovereign, Trust Amy and possibly Princess Petrol should help force a searching gallop. That may play into the hands of Sky Majesty and closers arriving late off the speed.
Main contenders
SKY MAJESTY (IRE) – 9/10
William Haggas / Tom Marquand
Progressive older filly with the strongest adjusted profile in the race. Her Newmarket return was better than the bare result after meeting trouble in a race not ideally run for her, and this setup looks much more suitable. Crucially, she handles heavy ground and possesses the tactical versatility for a strongly-run Haydock six. Haggas has outstanding Haydock and sprint statistics and second run back could easily bring improvement. The pace setup is a major positive. Proven, classy and conditions look ideal.
ROSY AFFAIR – 8.5/10
George Boughey / Billy Loughnane
Comes here in peak form and narrowly denied in Listed company at Newmarket. She is clearly thriving and her recent figures are rock solid. The concern is tactical rather than ability-related: she may get dragged into a pace battle in conditions softer than ideal. Timeform specifically notes the likely pace scenario could compromise her late. Still one of the likeliest winners because she is proven and consistent, but this race setup is tougher for her than Newmarket.
MAGIC BASMA (IRE) – 8/10
Kevin Ryan / Tom Eaves
Very solid Haydock-type profile. Handles soft and heavy, stays further than 6f and should finish strongly if the leaders overdo it. Her Newmarket run ties in closely with the principals and she may be underestimated again. Reliable mare with conditions firmly in her favour. Strong place claims and appeals each-way.
HALF SOVEREIGN (FR) – 7.5/10 p
Karl Burke / Clifford Lee
Interesting 3yo receiving weight from older mares. Soft-ground form is strong and she usually races prominently, though the concern is whether she gets caught up in an unsustainably strong pace after two disappointing efforts this spring. If rebounding to juvenile form she is dangerous. Still progressive enough to bounce back.
LADY YOUMZAIN (IRE) – 7.5/10 P
Kevin Ryan / Kevin Stott
Unbeaten and clearly promising. She has won both starts nicely and gives the impression there is much more to come. However, this is a steep rise into Listed company against battle-hardened older sprinters on very testing ground. The upside is significant though, and she remains one of the more interesting runners in the field. Market support would be notable.
RHYME DUST – 7/10 p
Ralph Beckett / Hector Crouch
Soft-ground ability is a plus and Beckett’s yard is in strong form. Forgive latest effort on unsuitable quicker ground. She has a closing style likely to suit this pace map and could outrun odds. Not fully proven at this level but has some upside.
Interesting outsiders
DANDANA – 6.5/10 P
Oisin Murphy booked and returns from 244 days off. Juvenile form had promise before struggling in the Ayr mud. Could easily improve physically at three and stable places runners ambitiously. Market important after absence.
SPLISH SPLASH (IRE) – 6.5/10
Course-and-distance winner and acts on easier ground. Her Newbury run can be forgiven but she will need to rediscover autumn form quickly.
COCONUT COVE (IRE) – 6/10 P
Lightly raced Varian filly returning from a long break. Unexposed and receives weight. Could improve considerably at three but this is a difficult reappearance assignment.
Others
ANGEL SHARED – 5/10
Best form at 5f and stable cold. Heavy-ground record not convincing despite pedigree hints.
LADY ROXBY – 4.5/10
Consistent enough but vulnerable at Listed level on these conditions.
PARIS BABE (FR) – 4/10
Mostly AW profile and turf efforts have lacked substance recently.
POWDERING (IRE) – 3.5/10
Reliable handicapper but this level looks beyond her now.
FIGJAM (IRE) – 5.5/10 p
Heavy-ground juvenile form offers hope and she has scope physically, but this looks a tough ask after a modest seasonal return.
PRINCESS PETROL – 4.5/10
Has regressed sharply from juvenile promise and stamina may be stretched by these conditions.
TRUST AMY (IRE) – 2.5/10
Likely pace pressure and overall form leaves her with a mountain to climb.
Race shape and weighting assessment
This is a race where pace and ground deserve extra weighting over pure ratings. Several of the market principals possess overlapping Newmarket form, but Haydock on soft/heavy terrain with a likely burn-up early creates a very different test.
The key analytical adjustment:
Downgrade aggressive front-runners slightly.
Upgrade strong finishers proven on soft/heavy.
Give added respect to trainers with elite sprint records and horses likely to improve second run back.
That particularly benefits Sky Majesty and Magic Basma.
Each-way angles (17 runners)
Magic Basma is the standout each-way angle given her proven soft-ground profile, strong form ties and likely race setup.
Rhyme Dust is another viable bigger-priced each-way alternative if the ground deteriorates further.

Summary
A fascinating Listed sprint where the likely brutal pace and testing Haydock conditions could overturn straightforward Newmarket collateral form. Rosy Affair arrives as the most solid recent performer, but this setup may blunt her strengths. Sky Majesty looks the one most favoured by the expected race dynamics and has conditions to suit ideally if returning to peak form second run back.
Magic Basma appeals as the dependable each-way player with strong soft-ground credentials and a race likely to be run to suit.
