(Class 5)
4yo+ fillies & mares | 7f | Good | 8 runners
Lingfield’s turf 7f can favour handy racers drawn middle-to-high when the ground is sound, particularly if the pace is only steady to even. There does not appear to be an abundance of confirmed front-runners here, which may increase the importance of tactical speed and track position. Land Of Magic is the obvious pace angle and could attempt to dictate from stall 5, while Hilltop and Daisy Roots are capable of sitting prominently. Hold-up runners may need luck if the field stacks up turning in.
This looks a race where track suitability, tactical positioning and proven 7f effectiveness should carry more weight than raw ratings alone. Several arrive with doubts about the trip or turf suitability despite respectable figures elsewhere.
Strongest contenders
Hilltop sets the standard on recent profile and suitability. She is a previous C&D winner on good ground, arrives after another 7f success at Newcastle and the Kubler yard continues in strong order. Importantly, she has already shown she goes well fresh, so the 76-day break is less concerning than it would be for many. Tom Marquand is a positive booking and stall 8 should allow tactical options. She looks well suited by the likely pace shape and remains fairly treated off 75. Proven rather than flashy, but solid.
Rating: 8.5/10
Daisy Roots is another with strong C&D credentials and arrives in consistent form after several good efforts on the AW here. She handles the track, trip and conditions well and should get a favourable stalking position from stall 7. She is slightly above her last winning mark but this race lacks depth. Reliable profile and likely to run her race again.
Rating: 8/10
Bella Bisbee has become very effective on AW this year and her best turf form gives her a chance from this mark. The concern is whether she reproduces recent all-weather sharpness back on grass, but she is attractively weighted on peak ratings and remains fairly progressive at this level. If settling into rhythm early, she can travel strongly into contention.
Rating: 7.5/10 p
Main dangers
Eazy On The Eye has the raw ratings to play a major role but there are notable reservations. Her turf record is uninspiring and this sharper 7f may not be enough of a stamina test. Her Wolverhampton form reads well, though, and if the race develops into more of an end-to-end gallop she could finish strongly late.
Rating: 7/10
Thunderous Love is very dangerous if the race turns tactical because she possesses the strongest sprint speed in the line-up. However, all five wins came at 6f and this trip stretches her stamina. A steadily run race would help, but a true 7f may find her out late.
Rating: 6.5/10
Interesting outsiders
Land Of Magic is dangerously well handicapped now 4lb below her C&D winning mark from last year. She could get an uncontested lead and Lingfield turf can reward aggressive rides when the pace is controlled. Current form is uninspiring but this is weaker than some recent assignments. Major each-way angle at bigger odds.
Rating: 6.5/10
Summer Heat remains a maiden after nine starts but has repeatedly hit the frame and has shaped as though 1m is her optimum. The first-time tongue-tie may sharpen her up slightly but this sharper 7f asks a different question. Place claims if the pace collapses late.
Rating: 6/10
Welljudged has bits of ability in novice company but both handicap efforts have been disappointing and she now switches to turf with something to prove. The Varian stable commands respect, but she needs improvement for the surface switch.
Rating: 5.5/10 P

Pace and draw notes
The race may revolve around whether Land Of Magic gets a soft lead. If she does, the race could become tactical and favour those sitting handy rather than hold-up types. High draws are not a negative here on good ground over 7f and may actually help runners maintain momentum into the bend. Hilltop and Daisy Roots look especially well positioned tactically.
Trainer and jockey notes
Daniel & Claire Kubler place Hilltop well and the horse’s fresh record is a significant positive. Tom Marquand is a strong booking for this grade. Jim Boyle has a good record with experienced handicappers around Lingfield and Robert Havlin suits Daisy Roots’ running style.

Smart Play
Hilltop looks the percentage call. Proven at the track, effective fresh, tactically uncomplicated and arriving in form. She has fewer questions to answer than most of these.
Daisy Roots rates the main danger and makes solid each-way appeal in an 8-runner field given her C&D consistency and likely race position.
Top two bets:
1. Hilltop – Win
2. Daisy Roots – Each-way saver
