19:48 Roscommon – Q.R. Handicap Chase

·

2m5f150y, 4yo+, 0-100 handicap chase, soft ground.

No draw angle: jumps race. Pace looks important: this could favour handy/staying types, as several are out of form or unproven finishers. Ballagh Star, Revolut Ned and Jouster look likely to help shape the race; hold-up types may need luck and fluent jumping.

Non-runners noted: Bohemian Bay, The Rebel County.

Preview

Jouster is the solid one. His Tramore third behind a sharp improver reads well for this grade, his RPR 97 is strong, and the returning tongue-tie plus first-time blinkers may sharpen him. Soft ground is not ideal evidence-wise, but he is proven over fences and arrives in better form than most.

Revolut Ned is a danger. He won a point, then ran a solid third at Tramore over a similar trip. Still only seven and less exposed than many here. Soft-ground point form helps.

Ballingurteen is the promising angle. Chase debut is a risk, but she was second in a point and has improved in recent handicap hurdles. If taking to fences, she could rate higher than 81.

Stormy Master ran well after a break at Limerick and has winning chase form, but soft ground may blunt him. Kilashee has course-and-distance form but is 11 and better over hurdles. Ballagh Star has claims on last autumn’s chase form, though this trip may be shorter than ideal.

Interesting outsider: Rideau Canal, a mud-loving Tramore winner in February, though recent efforts are poor.

Stormy Master – 6.5/10 – good comeback, ground concern.
