18:10 Ascot – Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap (5f, Good to Firm)

·

Royal Ascot’s 3yo sprint handicap rarely goes to script and this year’s edition looks particularly demanding with 28 runners charging over a fast 5f.
The race appears likely to be run at a furious gallop and that should place the emphasis on finishing speed rather than pure early pace. With Timeform identifying a bias against the lowest stalls, the middle-to-high drawn runners hold the stronger tactical cards.
Dickensian brings the standout recent British form after winning a York Listed race and looks the most likely winner. Simplify comes out of the same race and could easily hit the frame again, while Stargazed appeals as a well-handicapped filly with proven big-field sprint credentials.
Of the less exposed runners, Gold Digger has considerable upside and Bacio represents a fascinating Wesley Ward challenge from a favourable high draw.
