14:02 Newcastle: Pace, Patience and Value in a Tricky Class 6 Opener

Newcastle’s 14:02 handicap is exactly the sort of Class 6 race where the most obvious horse is not necessarily the best betting proposition. Based arrives as the clear market leader after a breakthrough win at Wolverhampton, but this 7f Tapeta contest has enough pace pressure, exposed rivals and course specialists to make his short price look vulnerable.

The first thing to note is the race shape. Newcastle’s straight 7f often rewards horses who can race handily and keep rolling. That makes Surgeon Commander particularly interesting.
