6.40 Naas – Al Shira’aa Racing Irish EBF Jannah Rose Stakes (Group 3) Preview
A compact but intriguing field of seven three-year-old fillies goes to post for the Jannah Rose Stakes, with several arriving at different stages of their development and a tactical contest looking likely given the lack of obvious pace.
The race revolves around Cameo, who brings the strongest established form. Aidan O’Brien’s filly took a significant step forward when landing the Lingfield Oaks Trial over 1m3½f, travelling strongly and seeing out the trip well before earning a crack at the Oaks. She failed to make an impact at Epsom, but that form is easy enough to forgive in a much stronger race. Back in Group 3 company and returning to a more manageable assignment, she sets the standard on ratings and achievements.
The most interesting challenger is Rebel Moon from the Joseph O’Brien yard. A 500,000gns yearling, she made a highly promising debut at Gowran in April, overcoming inexperience to win going away. The bare form only tells part of the story and she has always looked the type likely to improve considerably with racing. Her absence since April suggests connections have been patient, and she could easily take a sizeable step forward here.
Joseph O’Brien also saddles Sinmara, whose profile may be slightly overlooked. She won her maiden impressively before running a solid fourth in the Athasi Stakes at the Curragh. The Irish 1,000 Guineas proved beyond her at this stage, but the move up to 1m2f looks a positive based on pedigree and running style. She has the look of a filly capable of better than her current rating.
Caught U Sleeping arrives as a proven course-and-distance performer after defeating La Fogata in a Listed contest over this track and trip in May. Noel Meade’s filly relished the step up in distance that day and her trainer believes she may stay even further. The concern is whether a steadily-run race will allow her to use her stamina to full effect.
La Fogata was only three-quarters of a length behind Caught U Sleeping in that Naas Listed race and subsequently ran respectably when dropped back in trip at Navan. Her pedigree points strongly towards middle distances and she remains one of the more interesting outsiders if continuing her progression.
British raider Della Pace has been admirably consistent in Listed company and arrives off a close third at Goodwood. She looks likely to run her race once more, although she may need a little improvement to trouble the principals.
Pollenca has shown ability and should appreciate this distance, but her recent form leaves her with plenty to find against these rivals.
Predicted Finishing Order
1. Cameo
2. Rebel Moon
3. Sinmara
4. La Fogata
5. Caught U Sleeping
6. Della Pace
7. Pollenca
Verdict
Cameo’s Lingfield Oaks Trial victory remains the standout piece of form in the race and she is the one they all have to beat if bouncing back from Epsom. Rebel Moon is the obvious danger as the least exposed runner in the field, while Sinmara appeals as the value alternative now stepping up to what could prove her optimum trip. A tactical affair looks likely, making positioning and turn of foot potentially more important than outright stamina.
