Hamilton 7.30: Pace Looks Key In A Sharp Class 3 Sprint
The 7.30 at Hamilton is a competitive Class 3 handicap over the minimum trip, and the race looks likely to be decided by pace pressure. Hamilton’s 5f track often favours speed, with front-runners holding a strong record, but this field contains enough natural pace to make life uncomfortable for anything trying to dominate.
Parisiac is the obvious pace angle. He made all over course and distance earlier this month and has since run well twice in defeat. He is reliable, in form, and well suited to Hamilton, but he may not get the easy lead he ideally wants. Tatterstall, Mon Na Slieve and possibly Gangsta Man can all race prominently, so the early fractions could be demanding.
That would bring Woohoo firmly into the race. She was unlucky at Musselburgh last time, meeting trouble before finishing strongly into second, and she already has winning course-and-distance form on good to firm ground. A strongly run 5f looks her ideal setup, although she is short enough in the market if the race becomes tactical.
Gangsta Man is another with a solid chance. His recent fourth at Thirsk over 6f was encouraging, and dropping back to 5f in this grade could suit if he sits just behind the pace rather than getting dragged into a battle early. At around 6/1, he may offer more value than the obvious favourite.
Al Hussar also makes appeal. He has been consistent this season, won a big-field Thirsk handicap, and his latest Chester run is easy enough to forgive after racing wide. He is not flashy, but he finishes his races well and should be suited if the leaders overdo it.
Of the others, Dyonisos is respected back in calmer waters after the Dash, while Tatterstall is well handicapped but has a habit of weakening late. Eye Of Dubai is interesting on old form but needs to prove himself after two quiet runs, and Mon Na Slieve looks vulnerable if pressured.
Verdict
This is not a race to take a very short price about anything, because the pace setup is complicated. Woohoo is the most likely winner, but Gangsta Man looks the better value if available around 6/1. Al Hussar is also worth considering at 8/1 or bigger.
Selection: Gangsta Man
Main danger: Woohoo
Value alternative: Al Hussar
