The 17:10 Beverley, the Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap over 7½f, brings together a competitive field of eight on good-to-firm ground. It is a race packed with course form, exposed handicappers and several runners arriving in solid recent shape, but the strongest overall profile belongs to Tattie Bogle.
Charlie Johnston’s four-year-old has been thriving in recent weeks. He won over this course and distance in June before backing that up with an excellent second at Thirsk just three days ago. That latest effort confirmed he remains ahead of his mark, and the likely race shape should suit. With a strong late-finishing profile and the ability to sit just behind the pace, he looks well placed to pounce if the leaders overdo things.
The main danger on raw form is It Just Takes Time, a three-time course-and-distance winner who has returned to form with two good seconds. He is reliable at this level and has the class to go close, but the pace map raises a slight concern. He is expected to go forward, and with Degale another likely front-runner, he may not get an easy lead.
The most interesting value angle is Coolree. His Beverley record is excellent, including a 100% place record at the track from eight runs and four wins. He was second to Tattie Bogle over this course and distance last time and remains a major player at around 6/1. The only concern is tactical: he usually races prominently and can weaken late, which may leave him vulnerable if the early fractions are strong.
Glenfinnan also enters calculations. He won over course and distance in May and shaped well enough when fourth at Carlisle last time. His mid-division style and tendency to stay on could make him dangerous if the race collapses late.
Of the others, Highland Olly is consistent and in good form, though this drop back in trip may not be ideal after recent efforts over further. Capital Guarantee, Degale and Bajan Bandit all have pieces of form that give them minor claims, but each arrives with something to prove.
Overall, Tattie Bogle looks the most likely winner. He combines recent form, course suitability and a favourable pace setup. However, from a betting perspective, Coolree appeals as the each-way value given his outstanding Beverley record.
Selection: Tattie Bogle
Best value: Coolree each-way
