Brighton 20:20 Preview: Graffiti Heads Competitive Classified Contest but Dogged Appeals as the Value

·

The concluding race on Brighton’s Tuesday evening card is a competitive 1m2f Classified Stakes for horses rated 0-50, and while the market is headed by the experienced Graffiti, there are several runners capable of making their presence felt.

Graffiti Sets the Standard

Gary Brown’s seven-year-old Graffiti arrives with the strongest recent form figures on paper. Although he has not managed to get his head in front for some time, he has been running consistently in slightly stronger handicap company and was beaten less than three lengths at Windsor on his latest start.

Dropping into classified company represents a significant easing in grade and his Racing Post Rating profile suggests he sets the benchmark. The combination of proven stamina at the trip, suitability to fast ground and consistent recent efforts makes him the most likely winner.

Dogged Looks the Value

Veteran nine-year-old Dogged may not have won since 2023, but his recent course-and-distance second catches the eye. Beaten only a neck over today’s track and trip on good-to-firm ground, he demonstrated that plenty of ability remains.

The Tony Carroll-trained gelding enters classified company for the first time and this represents one of the easiest assignments he has faced for some time. With conditions identical to those of his excellent recent run, he looks capable of going very close and may offer better value than some of the market principals.

Myna Brings Strong Stable Form

Another Tony Carroll runner, Myna, has already won twice this season and arrives from a stable enjoying a productive spell. His fourth-place finish at Lingfield last time was better than the bare result after a sluggish start left him with plenty to do.

If breaking on terms, he has the tactical speed to secure a favourable position in what looks a steadily-run contest. However, his tendency to miss the break remains a concern and could prove costly around Brighton’s turning circuit.

Mist Of Time Could Be the Improver

Three-year-old filly Mist Of Time is arguably the most interesting runner in the field. After showing little in her first few starts, she produced a much-improved effort when fourth in a similar event at Yarmouth eleven days ago.

Representing the in-form William Knight yard, she receives weight from her older rivals and remains open to considerably more improvement than most of this exposed field. A further step forward would put her firmly in contention.

Others Face Questions

All About George has yet to make the frame in six starts and needs to find significant improvement.

Launceston debuts for Tony Carroll after leaving Joe Ponting, but recent form offers little encouragement despite the stable switch.

Bear Steps steps up in trip and tries a first-time tongue-tie after a series of disappointing efforts. While unexposed, she has plenty to prove.

Pace and Race Shape

There is no obvious front-running specialist in the lineup, suggesting the race may be run at only a moderate tempo. Such a scenario could favour those racing prominently, with Myna perhaps best positioned tactically if breaking cleanly.

Closers may find themselves needing luck in running if the leaders are allowed an uncontested advantage entering the home straight.

Verdict

Graffiti brings the strongest overall form and is the most solid candidate to win, but Dogged’s recent course-and-distance effort makes him a serious threat and potentially the best betting proposition in the race.

Mist Of Time is the runner with the greatest scope for improvement and looks capable of outrunning her odds if building on her latest effort.
