Tramore 18:30 Preview: Marmeladova and Daboya Set for Fascinating Fillies’ Handicap Clash

·

A competitive seven-runner field lines up for the 1m4f Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Handicap at Tramore, and while the market is headed by recent winners Marmeladova and Daboya, there are several interesting angles beneath the surface.

Marmeladova Looks Ready for the Step Up

The lightly raced five-year-old Marmeladova arrives with arguably the most attractive profile in the race. A maiden winner at Ballinrobe in May, she shaped with considerable promise when third on her handicap debut over 9½ furlongs last time, staying on strongly through the closing stages.

That performance suggested a move up to 1m4f could unlock further improvement, and she remains relatively unexposed compared to several of her rivals. Trainer Kieran Condon’s team continues to operate in good form, while W.J. Lee retains the ride.

If she progresses as expected for the extra distance, she has every chance of taking another step forward.

Daboya Brings the Strongest Recent Form

Daboya comes into the race on the back of a convincing three-length success at Ballinrobe over 1m5f. That victory confirmed she is in excellent heart and continued a consistent campaign that has seen her regularly run to a solid level.

The handicapper has reacted with a 7lb rise and, combined with the loss of a valuable claiming allowance, she is effectively carrying significantly more weight than for that latest success. However, the booking of Colin Keane catches the eye and offsets some of those concerns.

While she may not possess the same scope for improvement as Marmeladova, she sets the standard on current form and looks certain to be involved in the finish.

Sea Coral Could Be the Value

Sea Coral is an intriguing contender from the Jessica Harrington stable. A winner over this trip on good ground last season, she has contested stronger races than this on her two starts this year and failed to make an impact.

Today’s drop in class could prove significant. Her mark has eased, a first-time tongue-tie is applied, and she receives a useful 5lb claim from Keithen Kennedy.

If the return to calmer waters sparks a revival, she could easily outrun her odds and looks one of the more appealing each-way propositions.

Others Need Improvement

Justenzia showed useful form earlier in the season, including a strong second over 1m5f at Ballinrobe, but arrives on the back of three disappointing efforts and must prove she can recapture her best.

La Dame Blanche is now well handicapped compared to her peak ratings and was runner-up in this race twelve months ago. However, recent form leaves plenty to be desired and a leap of faith is required.

Kashel Spring returns to the Flat after an unsuccessful spell over hurdles and still has stamina questions to answer at this distance, while Questionable faces a stiff task after lengthy absences and unconvincing recent runs over timber.

Pace and Race Shape

The small field lacks an abundance of confirmed front-runners, suggesting the pace may be only steady rather than strongly run. In such circumstances, tactical positioning could prove crucial.

That scenario should suit horses capable of travelling comfortably before quickening late, a profile that fits both Marmeladova and Daboya.

Verdict

Marmeladova appeals as the runner with the ideal blend of current ability and future potential. Her latest effort hinted strongly that this step up to 1m4f would suit, and she may still be ahead of the handicapper.

Daboya commands maximum respect after her recent win and is the obvious danger, while Sea Coral looks the value option at bigger odds.
