Killarney stages a seven-race evening card on good ground, with the programme built around a series of informative maidens and competitive handicaps. Several powerful Irish yards are represented, but there are few obvious bankers and the smaller-field races may become tactical.
17:30 — Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, 1m
Oklahoma USA sets the standard after finishing second on debut at the Curragh, where he pulled clear of the third. He should improve for that experience and is the one the newcomers have to beat.
The opposition is rich in pedigree. City Of Dubai, Francillon and Capability Brown all make considerable appeal on paper, but none should be assumed to be above average before proving it on the track.
Oklahoma USA has the safest claims, though this could prove a useful maiden if one of the newcomers is ready first time.
Leading contenders: Oklahoma USA, Francillon, City Of Dubai
18:00 — Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race, 1m
This five-runner conditions race revolves around Straight Up, who has already competed at Group 3 level and is officially rated 99. His best form is comfortably the strongest in the field, although his recent efforts suggest he is not entirely straightforward.
Mai Dahlia is the most interesting alternative. She won her Naas maiden easily and receives weight from the colts. Her official mark of 88 may underestimate her.
Res Ipsa is progressing and was an easy maiden winner at Limerick, but he needs another step forward. Loughrea is solid, while Bold Style has old Listed form but arrives with more questions than answers.
Leading contenders: Straight Up, Mai Dahlia, Res Ipsa
18:30 — SIS Supporting Irish Racing Handicap, 1m
A competitive three-year-old handicap in which Glitter And Glory looks one of the more dependable options. She was narrowly beaten by Johnny Soda at Leopardstown and is better off at the weights here.
Johnny Soda remains respected, but his mark has risen and he may have less improvement left than some. Vishaya is lightly raced and could be well treated on her handicap debut, while Red Autumn has slipped to a workable mark and may improve for the return to a mile on better ground.
Golddream is another who should get closer to Johnny Soda on revised terms.
Leading contenders: Glitter And Glory, Vishaya, Red Autumn
19:00 — Killarney Glamping Handicap, 1m
Recent form points towards Earls, who has run well in defeat at Roscommon and Limerick. He remains competitive from his current mark, although he would probably prefer softer ground.
Molto Amichi may get an easy time in front and that could make him dangerous in a small field. He remains a maiden, but his Leopardstown second was solid.
Quatre Bras has enough back form to feature but has not been at his best lately. Howyoulikethat is well handicapped on old form, while American Lawyer returns from a long absence and is difficult to assess.
Leading contenders: Earls, Molto Amichi, Quatre Bras
19:30 — Kerry Publicans Summer Race Day Fillies Maiden, 1m3½f
With Sea Of The Celts a non-runner, the established standard is set by White Sand Beach and Vauntingly.
White Sand Beach has plenty of experience and was second in a large-field Naas maiden last time. She is reliable, though now 0-8 and not obviously progressive.
Vauntingly may have more scope. She has twice finished second and could improve for this longer trip. De Vega Queen has shaped with promise on softer ground and may take a step forward on a sounder surface.
The newcomer Hey Stella has a suitable middle-distance pedigree but is making a late debut and may need the experience.
Leading contenders: Vauntingly, White Sand Beach, De Vega Queen
20:00 — Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden, 1m3½f
Camino Lad has the most convincing recent form. He finished strongly when second at Ballinrobe and is bred to improve over this longer trip.
Highwayman produced a much better effort at Naas, staying on from the rear at a huge price. That run gives him a chance, though he still needs to confirm the improvement.
Loch Gamhna has the highest official rating but has not progressed and has questions to answer on good ground. Mr Ballynonty ran well at Navan before appearing not to stay 1m4f, so this intermediate distance may suit.
Yogini is another possible improver after a green debut and now wears blinkers.
Leading contenders: Camino Lad, Highwayman, Mr Ballynonty
20:30 — Heights Hotel Killarney Handicap, 1m3½f
The finale is a low-grade but competitive 0-60 handicap.
Point Cartwright has been steadily progressing and shaped well when third at Naas. He needs time to build momentum, so traffic will be a concern in a 15-runner field.
Wipeawayyourtears won well at Fairyhouse and remains attractively treated after her rider’s claim. She has proven stamina and looks one of the most dependable runners.
Sands Castle returned to form at Ballinrobe and is bred to stay, though her best efforts have come with some ease in the ground.
Sir Trancealot has claims on his Fairyhouse third, while Chicago Moon ran respectably over this course and distance on handicap debut.
Leading contenders: Point Cartwright, Wipeawayyourtears, Sands Castle
Horses of interest
Best form chance: Straight Up, 18:00
Most interesting improver: Mai Dahlia, 18:00
Strongest maiden contender: Camino Lad, 20:00
Best handicap chance: Glitter And Glory, 18:30
Finale shortlist: Point Cartwright and Wipeawayyourtears
Overall, this looks a card where proven form should generally be favoured over reputation. The 18:00 conditions race is the strongest contest, while the juvenile opener may be the most informative for the future.
