15:53 Wolverhampton Previewattheraces.com/marketmovers Fillies’ Handicap (7f, Class 5)

·

A competitive fillies’ handicap over Wolverhampton’s specialist 7f course looks likely to be run at no more than an even gallop, placing extra emphasis on tactical positioning and track craft. Several of the better-fancied runners are hold-up performers, which could leave the race vulnerable to a progressive type securing a prominent early position.

Show Me Gold heads the shortlist after a highly encouraging handicap debut success at Kempton last month. Tom Dascombe’s three-year-old overcame traffic problems before finishing strongly to score over this trip and remains open to significant improvement after only four career starts. A 4lb rise looks manageable and she has the profile of a filly who may still be ahead of the handicapper.

The consistent Moostar is another with strong claims. James Owen’s filly has been knocking on the door in similar company and produced one of her best efforts when runner-up over 6f here earlier this month. The return to 7f could unlock a little more improvement and she should be well positioned if the pace proves modest.

Court Of Stars appeals as an interesting value contender. Ollie Sangster’s three-year-old won over this distance at Kempton in May and has continued to run respectably in stronger company since. Returning to her optimum trip could see her bounce back, and she has the tactical speed to secure a favourable position throughout.

At bigger odds, Molly Mac is difficult to dismiss. Although still a maiden after 12 starts, she produced a career-best effort when finishing second over 6f at this venue ten days ago. If building on that performance, the lightly weighted three-year-old could easily outrun market expectations.

Among the more exposed runners, So Sassy has slipped to an attractive handicap mark and possesses enough ability to feature, but a steadily run race may not play to her strengths given her tendency to be delivered late. Pickersgill faces a similar tactical concern despite arriving in good form after a recent Southwell second.

The returning all-weather conditions could also suit Eazy On The Eye, a dual course winner whose recent turf efforts are easy enough to forgive. If rediscovering her best Wolverhampton form, she could be involved in the finish.

Verdict: Show Me Gold possesses the strongest blend of current ability and untapped potential and is taken to follow up her Kempton success. Court Of Stars looks the value alternative, while Moostar’s consistency should see her run another big race.
