The progressive Mayor Of Maghera could prove the biggest threat. Since joining R. Mike Smith he has shown steady improvement, culminating in a convincing success at Musselburgh three weeks ago. Raised only 2lb for that victory, he remains on an attractive mark and still has scope to progress, making him a fascinating runner.

Last week’s course-and-distance winner Runninsonofagun arrives in winning form after making every yard in first-time blinkers. However, this represents a step up in class and, with other pace angles in the field, he is unlikely to enjoy the uncontested lead that proved so effective seven days ago. He will need to find further improvement to follow up under a 5lb penalty.

Donna Nook has been admirably consistent throughout the summer, ending a long losing run at Ripon before producing two respectable efforts in stronger company. She rarely runs a poor race and should be competitive once again if settling into a handy position.

Krissy continues to thrive for Jim Goldie, having won four handicaps already this season. The slight concern is the return to a mile on ground quicker than she has previously encountered, but her progressive profile means she cannot be dismissed.

Benacre drops in class after contesting tougher races and has become well handicapped judged on last year’s form, although his recent performances leave him with questions to answer. Stablemate Starliner was runner-up over course and distance last week and is better off at the weights with Runninsonofagun, giving him each-way claims if building on that effort.

Veterans Cisco Disco and Keep Me Stable both have excellent course records but arrive badly out of form and appear to need significant revivals.

The anticipated pace battle between Runninsonofagun, Starliner and Mayor Of Maghera should produce a well-run contest, potentially setting the race up for a strong-travelling stalker.
