A competitive Class 6 sprint on the the evening card at Beverley, with a strong pace looking almost guaranteed on the fast ground. Several habitual front-runners are drawn across the track, setting the race up for a truly run five furlongs where tactical positioning and the ability to see out Beverley’s demanding uphill finish could prove decisive.

Great heads the market after ending a long losing spell with a determined success at Carlisle earlier this month. Although raised 3lb for that victory and dropping back to the minimum trip, he remains well treated compared with his previous handicap marks and looks capable of following up if reproducing that latest effort.

Course-and-distance winner Beerwah arrives in good heart after another victory at Nottingham. Blinkers continue to bring out the best in him, and with Jack Callan’s valuable 3lb claim offsetting most of his 4lb rise, he appeals as one of the more progressive runners in the field.

Consistency is Level Up’s greatest asset. The seven-year-old has yet to win this season but has been knocking on the door in similar company and is now back below his last winning mark. A strongly run race could play perfectly to his stalking style, making him a major player if the leaders go too hard.

Veteran Dream Deal returns to Class 6 company after finding stronger opposition beyond him last time. His course-and-distance win earlier in the summer shows he remains capable at this level, while Dc Cogent continues to threaten to end a frustrating run without a handicap success and looks well treated if able to build on his latest placed effort.

Others have questions to answer. Bibendum must prove his latest success in a three-runner event is solid form now carrying a higher mark, while likely pace-setter Toptime could face plenty of competition for the lead. Dandy Dinmont has the ability to feature but needs to bounce back from two below-par efforts, with Hurt You Never and Opal Storm both requiring significant improvement on recent form.

A searching gallop appears likely, and that could hand an advantage to those sitting just behind the early pace before delivering their challenge inside the final furlong.

Verdict: Great is narrowly preferred to confirm his return to form, but Beerwah rates the chief danger and appeals as the value play. Level Up is respected for his consistency and should be finishing strongly if the pace develops as expected.
