A competitive seven-runner Class 5 handicap in which there is no standout performer, but several arrive with realistic claims. The average official rating of 71 suggests this is an ordinary contest for the grade, and the winner is likely to need a performance in the mid-70s on private ratings.

The pace looks interesting. Panelli has often raced prominently and may again be asked to go forward, while Rogue Dynasty is usually happiest close to the speed. War Chant has also made the running on numerous occasions, so there is the potential for an honest gallop rather than a steadily-run tactical affair. That could suit those ridden with a little more patience.

Distinct Spirit is narrowly preferred. He returned from a lengthy absence with a respectable third in a stronger Class 4 handicap at Newbury, shaping as though he retained all his ability. Dropping into Class 5 company from an unchanged mark of 75 gives him obvious claims, and a typical second-run improvement would make him the one they all have to beat.

Rogue Dynasty has been one of the most consistent horses in the field. The four-year-old has repeatedly run well from marks around 68–69, finishing placed on several occasions after travelling strongly. The slight concern is her tendency to be caught in the closing stages after looking the likely winner, but she remains a solid benchmark for this grade.

Panelli has enough form to be competitive, particularly his close second in a Class 4 at Kempton during the winter. He returns fitter after his recent Epsom comeback and should appreciate the return to a straight mile. The question is whether he can settle if forced to race prominently from a wide draw.

The most interesting outsider is War Chant. His recent all-weather form in Class 4 company is stronger than most of today’s rivals have achieved, and he is now back in a Class 5 from a workable mark. The uncertainty surrounds a 189-day absence and his debut for a new yard. If fully fit, he has the ability to outperform his odds.

Man Of Desert arrives on the back of a solid second over course and distance and could benefit if the leaders overdo the early pace. He remains a maiden, however, and probably requires another step forward to win.

Drifts Away is respected on his spring 2025 form, including a convincing Yarmouth success, but his last two efforts have been disappointing and he has something to prove despite returning to a favoured venue.

Mr Nugget has enjoyed an excellent winter on the all-weather, climbing rapidly through the handicap, but his turf record is unconvincing and his strongest form has come over further. He is likely to be staying on late but may find events unfolding too quickly over this straight mile.
