6f, Class 5, 3yo+, good to firm

This is a competitive sprint with several runners capable of performing in the low-to-mid 70s, but no obvious standout at the prices.

Always Perfect is the most progressive runner in the field and deserves to head the market. She travelled strongly and won comfortably at Yarmouth last time, and a 5lb rise still leaves room for further improvement. This is a deeper race, however, and her price already reflects her potential.

Raffles Angel makes more appeal at the odds. She returned to form when third at Nottingham and is now 1lb lower than when winning at Haydock last summer. She has already shown she can run to the level likely required here, and Newbury’s stiff straight six furlongs should suit.

Silver Wraith is another with a sound chance. Her two latest runs over 5f were disappointing, but she is better judged on her Bath win and second earlier in the season. The return to 6f is a clear positive, and she is tactically versatile enough to hold a useful position.

Distant Rumble has been consistent on turf this year and was not disgraced in stronger company at Newmarket. He should be competitive back in Class 5 company, although his current price leaves little margin for error.

Waistcoat produced one of the strongest individual performances in the field when winning at Chelmsford in January, but he has not matched that since. He remains capable, though top weight, a 75-day absence and a potentially steady pace make him less straightforward.

Mumayaz is reliable and receives a valuable 7lb claim, but he looks fully exposed around his current mark. Eightthreeone could improve for the return to 6f, though his recent form suggests he still needs to step forward. Phoenix Moon has place claims on her better figures but remains more convincing on the all-weather.

Just Jump is the difficult one to trust. He did well to win at Windsor despite a poor start and a stumble, but he remains quirky, can race too freely and is taking on several rivals with stronger proven form.

There should be enough pace from Silver Wraith, Distant Rumble and Eightthreeone to prevent a crawl, but the race is unlikely to be strongly run. Tactical position could therefore matter as much as raw finishing speed.

Selection

Raffles Angel is the value choice. She has solid recent form, is well suited by the track and trip, and is priced more generously than her main rivals.
