This looks like a competitive but fairly ordinary Class 5 handicap. My projected race rating is 71, which is around the standard of a solid Class 5 rather than one containing a well-handicapped horse ready to dominate.
The pace should be honest. Double Time, Ararat, Dalmally and Prodigal Son have all made the running or raced prominently in recent starts, while Gone Rogue and Lodge tend to race handily enough. That should ensure a true test up Sandown’s stiff finish and may favour those able to settle before producing a finish.

Sail On Sailor – Private Rating 73
He sets the standard on current form. His recent performances suggest he is running consistently above today’s level and he arrives as the horse most likely to produce a Class 4 performance in a Class 5 race. A strong pace and stiff finish should suit and he is the one they all have to beat.
Billy Mill – Private Rating 71
A reliable handicapper who should be competitive if reproducing his recent level. He lacks the scope of the favourite but usually runs his race and is capable of being involved if the pace develops as expected.
Strong Voice – Private Rating 70
The least exposed runner in the field. After only four career starts he shaped encouragingly when runner-up at Ffos Las on his handicap debut. He has considerably more scope than most of these exposed handicappers and looks the obvious improver.
Marsh Benham – Private Rating 70
One of the more interesting outsiders. His profile is familiar: dropped out early before finishing strongly. He won at Newbury earlier in the season from a similar mark and returned from a break with a promising second at Brighton. If the leaders overdo things, he could be finishing better than most.
Solid each-way claims
Gone Rogue – Private Rating 68
He arrives after a convincing Brighton success and has been remarkably consistent on turf. The question is whether Sandown’s stiffer track suits him as well as Brighton’s unique undulations, but his current wellbeing is difficult to knock.
Lodge – Private Rating 68
Lightly raced and capable of better than shown this season. Her maiden win suggested ability, but her handicap form has been mixed and she still has something to prove from her current mark.
Ararat – Private Rating 68
Probably better than his current mark after dropping a long way in the weights, but most of his better recent efforts have come on the all-weather. His Newbury third last month showed he retains ability, although he has become vulnerable when racing prominently.
Prodigal Son – Private Rating 69
Won at Bath earlier this season and remains fairly treated, but he has not built on that success. His profile suggests he can run into a place without looking especially likely to win.

Double Time – Private Rating 66
A former higher-grade performer whose best recent efforts have come when dominating weaker fields. He may find the early pace less comfortable here and younger legs could prove stronger in the closing stages.
Dalmally – Private Rating 61
Well handicapped on old form but recent efforts suggest he has regressed. His latest Brighton third was an improvement without indicating he is ready to win.
Amused – Private Rating 60
Impossible to recommend with confidence after two heavy defeats. His Lingfield second gives him some theoretical chance, but he arrives with far too many questions.
Berning Hot – Private Rating 59
Usually runs honestly but looks vulnerable in stronger company. More likely to pass beaten horses late than challenge for victory.

The race lacks an obvious well-in horse, but Sail On Sailor brings the strongest current form and deserves favouritism. The biggest threat could be Strong Voice, whose profile is that of an unexposed three-year-old capable of improving beyond his current mark. For each-way purposes, Marsh Benham appeals as the value option, particularly if the anticipated strong pace allows him to come through late.
